Rashida Z, is an American Singer & Songwriter. Composing harmony layered appealing melodies, her songs are unforgettably bold, captivating listeners across a variety of genres including pop, country and R&B.  Truth and Love are the subject of her category crossing tunes. She has been writing songs and performing for audiences since the age of 10.

Ballads are her sweet spot but she comes strong with hits like “Penny”, a song encouraging the underdog. Her recently released song “Irresistible” is played in rotation on Radio One’s Majic Atl 107.5 Home of the Steve Harvey Morning Show. The very thought provoking  song “Colorblind” made its debut on Beasley Media’s Radio Station Power 98 FM Charlotte. Her music is played daily on several radio stations across the US and available for streaming worldwide.

Rashida, the name meaning righteous; wise; knows her own way is the true description and introduction of the great independent artist Rashida Z. Emit Radio describes Rashida Z’s sound as a mix of the late, great Whitney Houston merged with Alicia Keys in the R&B category of Adult Contemporary with a hint of pop.  Prolific songwriting is her claim to fame and it is evident the moment you hear her thought provoking, unapologetically honest lyrics intertwined with her original, hitmaker style that makes her melodies so memorable and will have you singing along right away.

Rashida Z’s new song “Colorblind” has been described by music industry professionals as a “Hit and a Half”. With its racially inclusive lyrics, Colorblind is a stunner reminiscent of music that is fit for the big screen. Colorblind is Produced by Branden Burch who also Produced India Arie’s “There’s Hope” and her latest “He’s Got That Magic”. As if that was not enough Colorblind is topped off with a hint of music royalty with Andrew Debarge from the beloved Debarge family on guitar.

Rashida Z was “born to write songs”, which is also her Instagram profile name. She started her career performing in the Washington D.C area where she was born and raised, later moving to Charlotte N.C. where her dynamic vocals, original songs performances and musical inclination continues to awe audiences.  She is the total package; beauty, brains, a spirit of gratitude wrapped with humility and talent that is sure to have you wanting more.

Rashida Z’s songs receives daily radio airplay and  have been played on major broadcast radio stations within the United States, with Beasley Media Group’s WPEG Power 98 in Charlotte NC being the first to play her song Colorblind. The DJ at Power 98 described Colorblind as “Dope” and a song that “caught him off guard”. He played it on air within a few days of receiving it. Communique Magazine of the Washington DC, Maryland and Virginia Area featured Rashida Z and the lyrics to her song Colorblind in their latest August 2020 Special Youth Edition Issue as a tool to help bring understanding in the discussion with kids aged 8-18 about the complexities of racial tension in our world.

In the month of November, making power moves, Rashida’s Colorblind video was seen on CBS’s WUSA TV-9 Great Day Washington as a musical spotlight on the segment DMV Soundcheck. She was also featured twice more in communique magazines October and December issues with Angie Stone and Brian McKnight on the covers.

In 2021, she starts fresh in February with her single “Penny”, described as a pimpalicious pinch of old school funk with a twist and drips of millennium juice. Penny has so much percussion swagger, the beat is an intense buildup of energy!

Her seventh release, Oh My, What A Nice Surprise , is a country song that she wrote during the Pandemic. Thinking of all the people who were quarantined alone during the beginning of the lockdowns, Rashida wrote this heartfelt tune about togetherness, and the necessities of human face to face contact.

In the February of 2022 Rashida Z introduced her newest release, which is a 9 song EP titled Truth & Love Semi-Unplugged which features songs and accompanying Interludes where she describes personal experiences and her views on subjects relating to romantic love,

Taking nothing for granted, her focus with her music is to touch hearts, change minds, tell the truth through song with the intention that her music relates to every person who is experiencing life and all  its complexities and to put life changing music to our everyday experiences. Rashida Z says, “We’re all going through similar situations in one way or another and I want my music to be an outlet that people can use to make this grand gift of life a little more understandable and meaningful.” As far as future goals she adds, “I hope to win a Grammy one day and continue to consistently release music that people can relate to, music that makes a difference.”
